JT Multisport January 2022 Newsletter

January 2022

What an up and down start for 2022! The year started with a bang and one of our best camps ever in Falls Creek, Victoria. We spent the week climbing mountains, running trails and swimming in the Rocky Valley Dam. This year teams were competing for the coveted rainbow bandana. Congratulations to team red for taking the title this year and to Bell Roche and Jarrod for being awarded camp MVPs! We’re already looking forward to next year.

Our first hurdle of 2022 shortly followed camp as our members and coaches felt the brunt of the omicron outbreak. A big thank you to those athletes and coaches who stepped up to fill in at sessions while a number of our squad and coaches were in isolation!

To say we were itching to race this year was an understatement. After having our athletes knocked off the start line at Sprint Distance Nationals in Melbourne due to covid we shifted our focus to a block of racing in Canberra kicking off with Tri Canberra on January 22nd. With a depleted list of athletes returning from illness the task of closing the gap to Bilby’s on top of the interclub series seemed nearly impossible but as our athletes stacked the podiums we’re feeling ready to put in a good show for the rest of the series!! A big congratulations to Talia Chambers (super sprint) & Tracy Clinch (sprint) for taking out the overall wins!

Next up was the Oz Day Aquathon and what an atmosphere! This race is one you don’t want to miss next year. With fun on the aqua park, face painting, BBQ and a couple of sneaky brewskies the race had everything we needed to celebrate the public holiday in style! Our celebrations continued as we continued our roll of overall race wins with Ash Lawson taking the women’s race and Blake Wooster third overall in the men. Congratulations to everyone who raced and volunteered throughout January.

As if January wasn’t packed enough we’re buzzing to get stuck into a month that includes Batemans Bay triathlon, ACT Aquathon Champs, Geelong 70.3, Devonport, Husky AND our Triathlon ACT Foundation Coaching Course. After a rough couple of months (years) & a severely depleting racing calendar this is exactly what we have been missing. Good luck to everyone racing, volunteering and cheering this Feb - we know it’s going to be huge!!

Athlete Spotlight

James Tuggey

If you’ve been to a JTM session or race over the last couple of months you’ve likely had the pleasure of meeting James. With Geelong 70.3 on the horizon, January has been a big month. Jame has often been the last to leave training/races as he finishes his extended session or cool down and we have been so impressed at James’ ability to manage his training with his work and family life. We can’t wait to see all the hard work paying off in Geelong!

Training Tools

Are you doing your drills and activation? Nothing makes us happier than seeing our athletes properly preparing themselves for a session. We love seeing our athletes on deck 30minutes before swimming doing their dry land. A few minutes of dedicated specific work before or during a session can make a huge impact come race day.
